In 2017 , as part of the 10th edition of the  Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Étienne, the local transport company STAS launched a contest entitled A Streetcar Named Design intended to design students from all over France. The contest was such a success that in 2019 it was extended to international students of  the schools within the UNESCO Creative Cities Design network.

The goal ? To imagine and design a full covering for one of the tramways of Saint-Étienne Métropole, that will be put into circulation on the ocasion of the opening of the 12th Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Etienne (April 2022).

A springboard for future designers

The winner(s) of the competition will have the opportunity to decorate a tramway of the Saint-Étienne Métropole urban transport network that will circulate for a substantial period joining the proposals of the winners of the 2017 and 2019 editions, still running today. The winner(s) will also be awarded € 5000. Thus, this competition is a real opportunity for all students who aspire to become designers!

This competition is open to students or groups of students enrolled in a master's degree programme in the art schools of the UNESCO Creative Cities of Design, or in the French schools belonging to the network of the National Association of Public Art and Design Schools (ANdEA).  

Deadline for entries: February 1st 2022.
