Through this exhibition – a pause in a body of work that is constantly in and on the move – David Dubois’ world unfolds: hybrid objects, notable collaborations, personal research and iconic pieces bear witness to an approach that reinvents our relationship with everyday life, combining formal rigour, minimalism, poetry and freedom of invention.

A self-taught artist and graduate of ENSCI – Les Ateliers in 2003, David Dubois works at the crossroads of various disciplines, drawing on connections between design, contemporary art, graphic design, fashion and dance.
His career highlights a real freedom of action coupled with a pronounced taste for cross-disciplinary work. He mixes approaches and works seamlessly with a wide variety of disciplines. His design approach is conceptual and draws on contemporary art. Marginal, experimental and poetic, it questions and opens up previously unexplored possibilities.
I tend to work alone with limited resources, which allows me to do what I want to do.
In his work, David Dubois works within constraints and favours economy of means. He goes beyond the notion of object and functionality, even if it means reinventing them, multiplying their functions and, in doing so, creating shifts. He combines, recycles and adapts existing elements and objects. He proposes new uses and appropriations for them, in a constant quest to renew our everyday environment.
Throughout my career, I have been curious to experiment with projects in collaboration with other creators in order to open myself up to other aesthetics and take an interest in other types of design.
David Dubois’ career has been marked by seminal encounters and collaborations: with the duo BLESS, with Villa Noailles, with designer Martin Szekely... Since founding his studio in 2005, he has worked for brands, manufacturers, museums and galleries. He has also collaborated with Issey Miyake, Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons, l’Herbe rouge, Christian Lacroix, Hermès, Lalique, Kronenbourg, Mudam, the A1043 gallery, the Centre International d’Art Verrier (CIAV), the Centre d’Information et de Recherche sur le Verre et les Arts Plastiques (CIRVA) and the Kadist Art Foundation. His works are produced by Lalique, FR66, the MICA gallery, the Sémiose gallery, Ilivetomorrow, the CIAV and the Kreo gallery, which represents him today.

Designed by David Dubois, the exhibition’s scenography offers an immersive experience in the form of object theatre, inviting visitors to sit down for a prolonged and contemplative observation. The projects on display reflect the diversity of the creator’s fields of practice: design, fashion, contemporary art and live performance.
By giving visitors the opportunity to sit down, the exhibition experience is intended to be different, more immersive and contemplative, offering a longer viewing time for the pieces.
The exhibition presents around sixty creations (objects and scenographic projects), as well as the results of the designer’s experimentation with the regional quilted textile manufacturer: l’atelier d’ennery (Haute-Loire).
