Yuting XIE

AutoSkin is a transmedia narrative that merges novel writing and immersive exhibition to question how individuals are constructed and disciplined by data and social expectations. Inspired by Hua Pi, it uses the metaphor of skin to reveal the tension between authenticity and social masks. Rooted in my long-term observation of AI, the project views artificial intelligence not as an autonomous being but as a collectively shaped Other, a mirror of human biases and values. The fictional AutoSkin system allows users to design adaptive personality skins, reflecting the algorithmic negotiation of identity.
Rather than predicting the future, AutoSkin serves as a mirror of the present — asking: in a world of apparent freedom, is “who we are” truly a choice, or a simulation shaped by invisible systems?
