After a successful initial experimental period from 2021 to 2024, the Cabane du design is getting a makeover and a new identity: La Cabane.
It was closed on 1 July 2024 for an extensive renovation funded by Saint-Étienne Métropole. The new version will be officially inaugurated on Thursday 18 September 2025, to tie in with France Design Week 2025, opening its doors to the public on Saturday 20 September.
Originally designed as a space open to all and free of charge where youngsters could discover design, today La Cabane is reasserting that vocation in a revamped, enhanced version: reconfigured workshops, new spaces on a mezzanine,
new furniture... It offers a welcoming space for families and young visitors, one that lends itself to discovery, experimentation and conviviality, while encouraging children’s autonomy and informal learning.
To mark its reopening, La Cabane is offering an enriched programme of workshops and an interactive exhibition, UTOPOP. This rebirth ties in perfectly with the transformation of Cité du design quarter, marking a key stage in the major urban renovation project being implemented by Saint-Étienne Métropole.
