The entire functioning of our western societies has become dependent on digital technology, as have our personal and professional lives. It is therefore essential for tomorrow’s artists and designers to anchor their practice in this context, whilst being fully aware of the multiple issues involved. They will have to re-think and imagine the uses we make of them in our daily lives. Vast and complex, the digital sphere requires constant cultural, formal and technical exploration. In addition to the languages underlying any production in this field, it is a true "digital writing" that we need to manage to acquire and implement in the present but also in the near future. The artist or designer cannot settle simply for being a user of the digital tool but must become an active participant and designer in the field. The creative scene must be the place where new critical forms are redefined and invented given this context that needs to be perpetually tried, tested and re-examined.

The DNSEP Digital Creation course specifically teaches contemporary digital creative practices. The general scope of the practices taught covers art and digital design, more specifically parametric design, 3D modelling, creative programming, electronic prototyping and robotics, web design and web to print, virtual reality, augmented reality, indie video games, and techniques such as artificial Intelligence, digital manufacturing, photogrammetry, etc., with an awareness of free software and the Linux environment.

The Digital Creation course is centred on supporting and developing projects (individual, collective, in partnership with external players), and may cover areas touching on the object, graphics, space, sound and/or art depending on the profiles that each student wishes to develop: interaction design, digital manufacturing, computer programming as a creative tool, immersive devices, sound experiences, etc. Practical workshops and review workshops complete the course and students are required to produce a final dissertation.
