The practices of artists and designers cross paths, connect and feed into each other.
Space is something that is experienced: territory, landscape, architecture, stage, object, text, sound.
These are the premises that underlie the teaching on the ACDC_Spaces course: inviting the art and design student to experiment and hone their own practice of spaceby rubbing up against other disciplines.
As reflected in the diversity of the dissertation subjects and the rich visual variety of theartistic work submitted by the DNSEP candidates - which reveal so any ways of understanding, conceiving of and practising space - the ACDC_Spaces course cultivates cross-fertilisation, conversation, the collective as an educational matrix and supports the contemporary creation of these future artists and designers in all its moving aspects: a multitude of bodies, attitudes and artistic and social forms.
Areas of focus
All creative workis necessarily situated: what emerges is the result of a context (real andsymbolic). As for its dissemination, that depends on a precise set ofsituations. This is the premise upon which the current areas of focus for the researchconducted on ACDC_Spaces course are based.
The first areadevelops the articulation of intimate, personal or domestic spaces with shared, collective and common spaces - for example, commemorative objects, transitional objects, functional sculpture, sculpture insitu.
The second area looks at what it is that makes the connection in a relationship between body and space - for example, objects for dancing, performed object, objects for mediation.
The third area is dedicated to spatialised narrative - writing as public sculpture, publishing (books, printed matter, recordings) as an artistic activity in its own right.
The ACDC_Spacescourse alternates time spent on projects with more experimental forms of work. Firstly, students are expected to take a subject and appropriate it so thatthey can construct their own singular method and creative practice. Secondly, they are expected to experiment and learn to distinguish between what is research and what is not, among the different plastic possibilities available.The ACDC_Spaces course therefore offers a set of theoretical, methodological and plastic tools that rely on the development of projects in partnership with external structures, places of production and dissemination, in the fields of both art and design.
The DNSEPACDC_Spaces course, which is unique in France, leads to a degree in either art ordesign depending on the path previously taken by the student. It is aimed atall those who wish to develop a singular practice of space while experimentingwith the porosity of the art and design fields: here, we "ecologise thedisciplines" (Edgard Morin).
The ACDC_Spacescourse is unequivocal about the unique nature of the studies, which reflect the complementarity of the members of the teaching team, artists, designers and researcher who all promote the transversality of the different disciplines intheir own practice. The ACDC_Spaces course therefore offers classes and workshops that are open to both art and design students – inviting them to adopt aposition as a result of dialogism, alterity and the experience of contradiction.
