Public foundation course

ESADSE offers a public foundation course for French and international students wishing to take French art and design school competitive entrance exams (Year1). This course provides students with personalised support, assistance with choosing the future direction of their studies and prepares them for the entrance exams.

To give French and international students a unique artistic experience, to decompartmentalise the teaching provided and promote inclusion - that is the mission of the international foundation year. Here, you will experience inclusion in the educational experience and in the life of the School !
Theworking language is French and the group is half French young people and halfyoung people from abroad.

To support you as you prepare to take the entrance exams (or equivalence admission panels), this course will:

  • help you to put together your portfolio for the entrance exam and admission panel;
  • prepare you for the admission interviews;
  • provide an introduction to art and design with the teachers on the course, with talks and meetings with artists and designers, visits to exhibitions and cultural venues organised by ESADSE;
  • introduce you to project-based learning in art and design in France;
  • give you the chance to study in collaboration with international students and take part in artistic and intercultural critical exchange sessions.

Coordinator: Laurent Grégori
A freelance designer since 1993, Laurent Grégori looks for the graphic expressiveness of the surface in the treatment of space and volume. Partnered with colourist Nadine Cahen since 1998, he works mainly on identity design, with a specific focus on colour and graphics. He has worked for clients as varied as the RATP, Abet Laminati, Print-France, SEB, Michelin, BHV, the LeCorbusier-Firminy site, the Saint-Étienne museums and the Maison de l’architecture in Lyon.

Key features of the course

  • Access to the ESADSE technical studios, the library and the materials library. You will have a work room that is exclusively reserved for foundation year students, where you can work when not in classes.
  • Personalised support preparing for entrance exams.
  • Advice and guidance on choosing schools to apply to.
  • Production of new work, both individually and in groups, to present to the admission panels of Art and Design schools.
  • Constitution of a digital portfolio to send for pre-selection.
  • Interview preparation and practice (oral presentation and selection of work to present).
  • Preparation for the practical and general knowledge exams.
  • Exemption from the ESADSE application fee.

28-week course

  • 382 hours of classes and workshop session
    including at least 72 hours on the history of art and design and 75 hours of drawing classes
  • 5 hours of individual tutoring
  • 27 hours of talks (artists and designers)
  • 12-hour screen printing workshop

Admission criteria

Minimum age: 18 years
 
Entryrequirements: previous artistic practice and an interest in art and design
 
Presentation of your art work
Show your creations in a portfolio (pdf format/max. 5 Mb) including, ifnecessary, the links to online elements for multimedia, sound or digitalcreations.
Your portfoliowill reflect the diversity of your production (sketches and observationaldrawings, illustrations, pictorial experiments, sculptures, etchings, music, 2Dor 3D animation, etc.)

Your complete application with your CV, cover letter and portfolio(of your art work) must be sent at thelatest by 12 June 2025 to :
